Many Berkeley Hills residents are longing for better days when they can travel to far flung international destinations without worry. Recently, a group of hillside neighbors gathered at Marin Circle to enjoy Piedmonte red wine, cheese, white truffle oil on bread and reminisce about their past travels to Rome. After witnessing 8 near miss incidents between vehicles entering the circle and those already in the circle, an idea came to mind. Berkeley resident Nobel T Laureate noted, “We just flashed to our experience at the busy intersection in Piazza Venezia in front of Via del Corso where they have traffic officers, called vigili, on elevated platforms to direct drivers. Then it hit us. what better than a little Neapolitan flair to enhance public safety.” The group has started a change.org petition urging the city to hire Berkeley vigili as part of the new Department of Transportation to direct traffic in the circle between 8AM and 7PM.
