Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguìn was the victim of bicycle theft on the evening of Sunday, January 3rd.
Neighbors who witnessed the theft reported a disheveled person in his early 50s leaving the backyard of the Mayor’s apartment building. The alleged thief was seen riding the Mayor’s beloved pink Huffy “Sea Star” bike.
“I would have stopped the guy,” wrote neighbor Phil Roundtree on NextDoor. “But he was carrying nunchucks and I was afraid for my safety. Not afraid enough to call the cops of course.”
Anyone spotting the bike is asked to bring it to the Berkeley Bicycle Buy Back Bus for a cash reward. The bike has stock silver streamers and has some scratching where its training wheels were recently removed.
