In a shocking twist, California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed former Berkeley CM Cheryl Davila to replace Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris in the United States Senate.
In a statement, Newsom’s spokesperson apologized to CA Secretary of State Alex Padilla, who had previously been named to replace Harris. “It was a simple autocorrect error – the Governor sent the name from his mobile phone while awaiting the cheese cart at the French Laundry. He meant to type Davila: she is the designated marionette.”
Newsom’s choice of a one-term former city Councilmember raised a few eyebrows, but to her supporters Davila was the obvious choice. “Cheryl appeared on the scene with foreign policy at the top of her agenda. I always felt that her interest in bashing Israel needed a different forum and now she’ll have one,” says Councilmember Kate Harrison.
The Bunion reached Senator Davila just before press and asked what she will prioritize in her time on the Hill. “I want a 75% raise,” she replied. “I fought for one for the Mayor and Council and then lost my seat before I could get paid. I’m just sayin’.”
