Former Mayor of Colorado City, Texas Tim Boyd announced his intention to move to Berkeley and file to run for Mayor as soon as possible.
Boyd became a national figure when he wrote to his constituents in the middle of the devastating blizzard of 2021, “No one owes you [or] your family anything. I’m sick and tired of people looking for a damn handout. […] Only the strong will survive.”
Boyd went on to challenge “lazy” residents to find their own means of procuring water and electricity. The post has since been deleted from Facebook and Boyd is no longer in office.
Reached for comment, Boyd explained his decision to move to Berkeley. “Berkeley’s local government is a complete failure — crippling debt, crumbling infrastructure, and no plan in sight. Taxpayers have given up and are gardening and fishing in potholes. Parks have been given over to meth addicts and bike thieves. What shocked the nation in Texas is the norm for Berkeley.”
Boyd went on to explain his decision to run for Mayor of Berkeley.
“I see it as a challenge. With Berkeley poised to cut funding to its police department, it’s going to be a great proving ground for my belief that government can create conditions where ‘only the strong will survive.'”
